Have you ever experienced a time in your life where you are so inspired by the potential to be? The potential to be literally anything. There is so much to do and so many new things to try out, it’s hard to figure out where to start.
For me, this desire started at a very young age. Before ever picking up a phone, camera, or laptop I was in the kitchen at my friend’s house mixing up concoctions.
I’m sure you can picture it, two little girls standing on chairs so they can reach the counter top. Spatulas and whisks were everywhere, along with every sauce and oil one could imagine. You may think our task at hand would be one of normal children, like brownie batter or slime. For us it was steak marinades. Who knew a girl at eight years old would even know what a steak marinade is (my dad should be proud)! But the two of us would go door to door, fearless, selling a suspect bagged-liquid to all the neighbors. Were we a success? No, but hey, what were you doing at that age?
From there led me to my next project, selling erasers during lunch in elementary school.
Imagine this: it’s a snowy day in Colorado, you’re in your cozy sweater, snow boots, and have that rosy glow in your cheeks. You just finished up a game of heads up seven up in the gym, and now you get to eat lunch in your classroom (turkey sandwich, potato chips, and carrot sticks). Simple life. Next, try and think back and remember those erasers that were in the shape of a panda, or French fries and you could pull apart the little pieces (for my 2000s babies). Everyone loved them and wanted to have the best, most rare collection. And you could do just that by handing me over a couple of quarters. I created an eraser empire, from the blue plastic pencil box under my desk, selling to kids in different classes across all hallways (a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the thrill). Eventually, I got in trouble (who knew selling items in second grade for real money wasn’t allowed), so I had to leave that gig in the past, but took the mindset with me.
If you’ve known me for a while you probably have gotten a glimpse into my YouTube phase. For a little bit there I was pursuing a career in sports announcing. I can picture the moment I say in my cute little voice, “and don’t forget, GO BRONCOS!” and smile with my bright pink braces. It honestly should have been an NFL ad. I continued my “career” there doing spiff cooking show videos, music videos, slide shows, dancing, you name it.
We’ve all had our funny moments as kids, not saying that any of this makes me some super unique person. I am just trying to reflect on why I always have the overwhelming want to be and do a million things all at once.
I’m in a new town that I worked so dang hard to get to, where I see so much potential on the horizon. Things related to my career, athletics, relationships, my physical appearance, my mind, you name it – I want more, and I think I can do it. Time was slow then, but it’s faster than ever now. So this is my attempt at juggling and organizing my thoughts as I pursue new things.
