In honor of the new release ‘End of Summer’ today, I thought it made sense to talk a little bit about one of my favorite artists –
Over the past year or so, since graduating college I’ve had to spend a lot of time by myself. Which is good, I needed to learn that, but doing things alone kind of sucks sometimes. It’s quiet, lonely, confusing, and boring!!!
Some ways I learned to solve that was not even with just music itself, but Tame Impala’s music specifically.
It’s just so good, and it’s the perfect sound to get lost in. You know that feeling when you’re not even paying attention to the music, but you’re unconsciously singing, and doing a little dance. There have been many times when I am out in public and that happens to me. And once I’m leaving, I reconnect back with reality and I’m like oh god, people were probably like what is she doing.
I first found my love for his songs when my friend passed away some years back. For some reason the song, ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards’ just hit so differently during that time. The way I’d cope was sitting in my car by myself, driving around, and blasting that. From then and there I was hooked.
So you may be wondering how Tame Impala’s music promotes individualism (hence the title I came up with while writing this).
I don’t have an exact reason for it, but it makes me feel okay with being alone. I press on an album, throw my phone in my bag or pocket, and immediately have tunnel vision. It’s just me, the activity I’m doing, and nature around me. I don’t care what people think, I’m not wishing for more, or needing others around me. Instead, I develop the ability to be happy with where I am then, and there.
Kevin Parker’s voice somehow makes the sun brighter, and colors more vibrant, I don’t know how else to explain it. Every single sense we have feels elevated with whatever emotion it is he puts into those synths and sounds.
For someone who loves to surround myself with others, but is also trying to reunite herself with individualism, Tame Impala’s music provides that key. So that’s why I couldn’t be more excited for this song to be released, and to get the opportunity to get to do so many exciting things, alone, with the help of the incoming new album.
